Softball Game Preview: Oregon City Pioneers vs. McMinnville Grizzlies

The Oregon City Pioneers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the McMinnville Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Oregon City 3.8, McMinnville 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Oregon City turned things around against Sheldon last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Irish by a score of 6-1.

Piper Berrington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Allie Oliver was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Brynnley Thronson was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Oregon City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sheldon only posted a batting average of .259.

Meanwhile, McMinnville posted their closest win since May 8, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Sunset, sneaking past 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzlies.

McMinnville's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Oregon City, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.

Oregon City skirted past McMinnville 3-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
