Basketball Recap: Moriarty Falls Despite Big Games from Jackie Rivas and Abbie Beukelman

Moriarty lost against Goddard back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Moriarty Pintos lost 56-30 to the Goddard Rockets. While losing is never fun, the Pintos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Rockets are ranked 32nd).

Despite the defeat, Moriarty had strong showings from Abbie Beukelman, who posted seven points and nine rebounds, and Jackie Rivas, who earned two points and 11 boards.

Goddard got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Natalie Hardwick out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Hardwick has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jazmin De Leon, who put up 11 points and five steals.

Moriarty dropped their record down to 6-10 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Goddard, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.

Moriarty has already played their next game, a 61-14 win against Socorro on the 18th. As for Goddard, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-61 victory against Tucumcari on the 17th.
