Baseball Recap: Silver Valley Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lucerne Valley two weeks ago, Silver Valley came back down to earth. The Trojans came up short against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy on Tuesday, falling 14-3. The Trojans have struggled against Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Silver Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Melcher, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Melcher is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Jonathyn Yrigoyen was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Silver Valley's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. As for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season.

While Silver Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
