Basketball Recap: Stearns Takes a Loss

Stearns lost against Penobscot Valley back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Stearns Minutemen were dealt a 74-22 defeat at the hands of the Penobscot Valley Howlers. While losing is never fun, the Minutemen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Howlers are ranked first).

Stearns has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Penobscot Valley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stearns will face off against Piscataquis at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Penobscot Valley, they will square off against Woodland at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Woodland: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Penobscot Valley has snatched up ten consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
