Basketball Recap: Madisonville Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Palestine wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Madisonville, they should've done a better job of containing Zoriah Whaley. The Madisonville Mustangs rang in the new year with a 43-36 victory over the Palestine Wildcats on Friday thanks in part to Whaley, who posted ten points and four steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals.

Another player making a difference was Khia Byrd, who had eight points and ten rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

The win made it two in a row for Madisonville and bumps their season record up to 11-9. As for Palestine, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

Madisonville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-53 victory against Center on the 7th. As for Palestine, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 57-42 win against Rusk on the 7th.
