Recap: Hillcrest Jaguars vs. Shields Panthers
The Hillcrest Jaguars were the 47-43 winner over the Shields Panthers when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Hillcrest took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Shields on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Hillcrest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while Shields is ranked 134th).
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashlyn Kyser, who scored 9 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Kyser continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Sonija Evans was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 6 steals.
Hillcrest are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3. As for Shields, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Hillcrest will head out on the road to face off against Escambia County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shields, they will be playing in front of their home fans against W.S. Neal at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
