Softball Recap: Elysian Fields Takes a Loss

Elysian Fields was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 15-11 to the Union Grove Lions. Even though they lost, the Yellowjackets' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Layla Adkins put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and ten unearned) runs off eight hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Elysian Fields got a massive performance out of Madi Owens, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Owens has posted since back in March of 2024. Avery Woodley was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5.

Even though they lost, Elysian Fields kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.

Elysian Fields' loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Union Grove, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.

Coming up, Elysian Fields will challenge Beckville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Beckville will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Elysian Fields surely won't give up without a fight. As for Union Grove, they will take on Carlisle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Grove is facing Carlisle at the right time seeing as Carlisle is stuck on a 17-game losing streak.
