Baseball Recap: Starpoint Takes a Loss

Starpoint extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 7-5-1. They lost 6-0 to the Hamburg Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Spartans have suffered against the Bulldogs since May 21, 2021.

As for Hamburg, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Hamburg's part, the result came thanks to Jason Sekuterski's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks. Sekuterski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ben Mills, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Puchalski, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Starpoint and Hamburg should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 150th) will meet Lockport (ranked 312th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hamburg will square off against Gowanda at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (46 vs. 144). The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3, the Panthers 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
