Basketball Game Preview: San Leandro Pirates vs. Piedmont Highlanders

The San Leandro Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the Piedmont Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

San Leandro is coming into the matchup on the come-up as their season has now been buoyed by two straight wins. They walked away with a 55-47 victory over Mt. Eden on Friday. That eight point margin sets a new team best for the Pirates this season.

Meanwhile, Piedmont had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They rang in the new year with a 65-58 win over El Cerrito on Monday.

Piedmont now has a winning record of 6-5. As for San Leandro, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-12.

San Leandro ended up a good deal behind Piedmont in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, losing 57-38. Can San Leandro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
