Volleyball Recap: New Hanover Takes a Loss

New Hanover was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They came up short against the Ashley Screaming Eagle, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Screaming Eagle this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-20, 25-16.

Maille Smith paced New Hanover's offense, picking up seven kills. Smith really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with nine. She was also a major player on defense: she and she shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with two each.

New Hanover's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Ashley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-8.

Coming up, New Hanover will head out on the road to square off against Laney at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ashley, they will welcome South Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
