Softball Game Preview: Tocoi Creek Toros vs. First Coast Buccaneers

The Tocoi Creek Toros will take on the First Coast Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Tocoi Creek is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Bradford on Wednesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tornadoes.

Tocoi Creek saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaycee Huff, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, First Coast lost 13-4 to Paxon School For Advanced Studies on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their meetings with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost five in a row.

Destiny Mays made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.

Tocoi Creek dropped their record down to 10-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those road defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for First Coast, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

First Coast's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Tocoi Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for First Coast, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Tocoi Creek keep running through batters, or will the Buccaneers buck the trend?
