Baseball Recap: Eldred Takes a Loss

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Eldred and Chapel Field Christian had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Yellowjackets fell just short of the Lions by a score of 7-6 on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 on Monday.

Jayson Banach put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Jacob Tice made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

Eldred's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Chapel Field Christian, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Eldred will face off against Liberty at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.63 runs per game on average), something the Yellowjackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Chapel Field Christian, they will square off against Tri-Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
