The Madison-Grant Argylls will head out on the road to square off against the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Madison-Grant was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Marion on Monday. The Argylls put the hurt on the Giants with a sharp 15-9 victory. The win continues a trend for the Argylls in their matchups with the Giants: they've now won four in a row.
Luke Nelson looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Madison-Grant got a massive performance out of Xavier Yeagy, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Yeagy has posted since back in May of 2024. Chad Lamb also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Madison-Grant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Alexandria-Monroe, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They never let Tipton get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Monday.
Grayson Gaines looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Mason Fuller and Owen May did most of the damage at the plate: Fuller got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while May got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Adrian Smith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
Madison-Grant pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Alexandria-Monroe, their record is now 10-4.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Madison-Grant has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Alexandria-Monroe struggles in that department as they've averaged .478. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Madison-Grant was able to grind out a solid win over Alexandria-Monroe in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Argylls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
