Baseball Game Preview: Bear River Bruins vs. Cordova Lancers

The Bear River Bruins will be taking part in a tournament against the Cordova Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bear River will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Bear River proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Burbank 9-7.

Kaden Nicholls was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Cooper Berry was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Cordova had just enough and edged out Union Mine 3-1 on Monday. That's two games straight that the Lancers have won by exactly two runs.

Levi Nyberg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cordova saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Bargas, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Bear River pushed their record up to 12-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Cordova, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bear River has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cordova struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Bear River's way against Cordova in their previous meeting back in March of 2018, as Bear River made off with a 9-1 win. Will the Bruins repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
