Baseball Recap: West Salem Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for West Salem, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Red Hawks 7-6 on Monday. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 7-3 victory the Red Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

The team relied heavily on Parker Demorest, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of West Salem's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-10 when he doesn't). Luke Baginski was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

West Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau only posted a batting average of .258.

West Salem's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau is taking a road trip to take on Blair-Taylor at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Salem will be paying especially close attention to the Red Hawks' match: after the Red Hawks face off against the Wildcats, they'll take on West Salem again at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
