Softball Recap: Dekalb Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

DeKalb had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Metea Valley on Wednesday. The Barbs put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 8-1 victory. With that win, the Barbs brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Jasmine Rodriguez and Ayla Gould made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Rodriguez struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Gould didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Rodriguez went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Gould went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs Gould has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cassidy Cavazos, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Isabel Aranda, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

DeKalb's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-9. As for Metea Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

Coming up, DeKalb is taking a road trip to face off against Genoa-Kingston at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Barbs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cogs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Metea Valley, they will welcome Yorkville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
