Football Recap: Muncie Central Starts Season with Victory Against Delta

Muncie Central had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Delta Eagles, sneaking past 16-13. This was payback for the Bearcats, who suffered a 28-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Among those leading the charge was Dae'Cion Echols, who rushed for 132 yards. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making six total tackles. Carlos Echols Jr. did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Muncie Central proved: they limited Delta to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. While two picked up at least six total tackles, Echols stood above the rest. He rushed for 132 yards. Muncie Central's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.8.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Deacon Blevins, who threw for 146 yards and a pair of TDs.

Looking ahead, Muncie Central will host Yorktown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Delta, they are headed away from home for the first time to face off against Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
