Baseball Recap: Liberty Gets the Win

Liberty posted their closest win since April 17, 2025 on Wednesday. They skirted past the Moreno Valley Vikings 4-3.

Salvador Sandoval looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Matthew Schaeffer and Brandon Ansell did most of the damage at the plate: Schaeffer went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Ansell went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple and one run. Those four hits gave Ansell a new career-high. Colten Pike also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Moreno Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.

Liberty will have a chance to go back-to-back against Moreno Valley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
