Baseball Game Preview: Edinburg North Cougars vs. Lyford Bulldogs

The Edinburg North Cougars will face off against the Lyford Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Edinburg North comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Edinburg North came up short against San Benito on Monday, falling 13-3.

Edinburg North saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Yadier Garcia, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lyford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Hebbronville 17-8 on Wednesday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Riley Reyna was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gael Silva, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Lyford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hebbronville only posted an OBP of .361.

Edinburg North's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Lyford, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

Edinburg North beat Lyford 6-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Will Edinburg North repeat their success, or does Lyford have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
