Basketball Recap: Cotopaxi Takes a Loss

If Cotopaxi was feeling good fresh off their 60-25 takedown of Moffat last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cotopaxi Pirates took a 40-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Center Vikings on Saturday. The game was a 16-16 toss-up at halftime, but the Pirates couldn't quite close it out.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Center to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ximena Miranda, who posted eight points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Miranda has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emiliana Valdez, who had ten points.

Cotopaxi's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Center, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cotopaxi will venture away from home to square off against Manzanola at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Cotopaxi's defense has only allowed 25.9 points per game this season, so Manzanola's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Center, they are taking a road trip to take on Sanford at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sanford will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Center surely won't give up without a fight.
