Basketball Recap: St. Catherine's Saints vs. Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves
The St. Catherine's Saints were the 73-49 winner over the Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The match between St. Catherine's and the Wolves wasn't particularly close, with the Saints falling 50-34. St. Catherine's has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Saint John Paul the Great Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nina Velandria led the charge by scoring 21 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Saleema Tinner, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
St. Catherine's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Catherine's will square off against the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Collegiate focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against the Conquistadors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Seton is coming into the match hot, having won their last nine games.
