Softball Recap: Isabella Chavez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pacheco over Lathrop

Pacheco extended their losing streak to 16 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 3-17 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-2 to the Lathrop Spartans, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-4 back in March.

Pacheco saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Chavez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. That double was Chavez's first of the season.

As for Lathrop, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Lathrop's side, Maci De Costa made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. De Costa has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tianna Gonzalez was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ja'Leiyah Ray was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Coming up, Pacheco will take on Gustine in a tournament on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Reds have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Lathrop, they will host Central Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
