Baseball Game Preview: Salesian College Preparatory Pride vs. El Cerrito Gauchos

Salesian College Preparatory is 0-6 against El Cerrito since April of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Pride will head out on the road to face off against the Gauchos at 4:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Salesian College Preparatory is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Skyline.

Evan Vela was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Vela was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Salvador Guerra made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, El Cerrito came up short against Benicia on Tuesday and fell 4-1.

Jackson Beebout was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, El Cerrito saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Talio Ubalde, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Salesian College Preparatory's record is now 1-8. As for El Cerrito, their record now sits at 8-5.

Salesian College Preparatory suffered a grim 14-5 defeat to El Cerrito when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Pride avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
