Basketball Recap: Kylie Fortner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Landrum over Blue Ridge

After flying high against Union County on Monday, Landrum came back down to earth. The Cardinals took a 63-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Fighting Tigers are ranked 15th).

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kylie Fortner, who posted 13 points. Fortner has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Delaney Caldwell was another key player, putting up 13 points and five blocks.

Opal Maralit produced another solid performance almost dropping a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds for Blue Ridge. The dominant performance also gave Maralit a new career-high in shooting accuracy (75%). Another player making a difference was Talia Maxwell, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards.

Landrum's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Blue Ridge, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Landrum wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 68-46 victory against Liberty on the 12th. As for Blue Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-43 win against St. Joseph's Catholic on the 11th.
