Baseball Recap: South El Monte Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for South El Monte, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Gabrielino on Wednesday. South El Monte has beaten Gabrielino the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Gabrielino has come to flipping the script.

Christian Ortega made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, South El Monte got a big performance out of Emiliano Gonzalez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Gonzalez has posted since back in April of 2024. Xavier Cordova was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

South El Monte's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Gabrielino, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4-1.

As for Gabrielino, they will host El Monte at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
