Baseball Game Preview: Gadsden Panthers vs. Mayfield Trojans

Gadsden hasn't had much luck against Mayfield recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Panthers will welcome the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Gadsden will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Centennial hit Gadsden with a ten-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers lost 16-6 to the Hawks. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly ten runs.

Gadsden saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Dominguez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Robert Martinez was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Mayfield entered their tilt with Alamogordo on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Tigers.

Mayfield now has a winning record of 10-9-1. As for Gadsden, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14-1.

Gadsden suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to Mayfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
