The 6-foot-2 senior is averaging 45.2 points per contest for the Lions.
Murr made headlines Nov. 30 at the Lighthouse Classic, hitting just above his average with 46 against New Site (Miss.) to break the AHSAA career scoring record with 4,659 points. He eclipsed the previous mark of 4,555 points set by Jeremy Monceaux of Parkway Christian, who played from 1998-2002.
"It's an honor, when you think about all the great players that have played in the history of Alabama basketball. I am grateful for the doors God has opened, the opportunities I've had at Lindsay Lane and the teammates I've had the chance to play with," Murr said.
This isn't the first Alabama record Murr has broken. Last season he
set an AHSAA single-season mark with 1,442 points. He also was
the nation's second leading scorer, averaging 45.1 points per
outing.
Murr's 4,659 career points is good for 12th on the all-time national scoring list. At his current rate, he could hit the 5,000-point mark by mid-January.
He could reasonably break into the
top five on the all-time scoring list. Bruce Williams of Florien (La.) ranks fifth with 5,493 career points.
Next year, Murr will head to Nashville, Tenn., where he's committed to play for Lipscomb University.
