Baseball Recap: Blue Eye Comes Up Short

Blue Eye dropped down to 9-9 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-1 to the Cassville Wildcats. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 20-5.

As for Cassville, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-24-1. That looming 14-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Cassville's part, Colton Roark made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Roark has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Cassville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 6-23-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Lawton England was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Spencer Drollinger was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blue Eye will challenge Hollister at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cassville, they are taking a road trip to square off against East Newton at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
