Softball Game Preview: Highland Prep Honey Badgers vs. Leading Edge Academy - GEC Spartans

The Highland Prep Honey Badgers will face off against the Leading Edge Academy - GEC Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leading Edge Academy - GEC took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Highland Prep, who comes in off a win.

Highland Prep made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Odyssey Institute, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Highland Prep was the clear victors by a 25-4 margin over Odyssey Institute on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Honey Badgers.

Sydney Mikkelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Mikkelson was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Mikkelson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Alexis Rodda was a standout: she scored four runs and stole Five bases. while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Miller, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Highland Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .805. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .538 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 21 runs the game before, Leading Edge Academy - GEC was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They lost 20-2 to Glendale Prep Academy.

Leading Edge Academy - GEC's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Highland Prep, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Highland Prep took their win against Leading Edge Academy - GEC when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 33-21. Will Highland Prep repeat their success, or does Leading Edge Academy - GEC have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
