Softball Recap: Fitch's Run of Six Straight Wins Now Over

Fitch dropped their record down to 8-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Norwich Free Academy Wildcats by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-7 back in April.

Emma Robinson and Kayla Gibson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Robinson went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Gibson went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Norwich Free Academy, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Norwich Free Academy's side, Dakota Bourdon was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Bourdon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Norwich Free Academy got a massive performance out of Mackenzie Rathbun, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Rathbun a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Boenig, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Fitch will welcome Edwin O. Smith at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Norwich Free Academy, they are taking a road trip to square off against East Lyme at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
