Preview: Caravel Buccaneers vs. Archmere Academy Auks
Caravel is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Archmere Academy is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Caravel Buccaneers will take on the Archmere Academy Auks at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Caravel had no problem doing just that on Friday. They claimed a resounding 36-0 victory over the Wildcats at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Caravel just coasted through the last quarter.
Meanwhile, Archmere Academy faced Woodbridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Archmere Academy took their game at home on Saturday with ease, bagging a 56-28 victory over Woodbridge. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but Archmere Academy was the (much) better team in the second half.
Miles Kempski had a dynamite game for Archmere Academy, rushing for 157 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Duncan was another key contributor, picking up 111 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Caravel to 12-0 and Howard to 8-4.
Caravel took their win against Archmere Academy when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 28-2. Does Caravel have another victory up their sleeve, or will Archmere Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
