Basketball Recap: Houston County Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central last Tuesday, Houston County came back down to earth. The Houston County Fighting Irish took a blow against the Camden Central Lions on Thursday, falling 58-28. The match marked the Fighting Irish's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Houston County saw an underclassman step up: freshman Paul 'Ryan' Carter dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Carter is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 11 games he's played. David 'Trace' Mitchell also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Houston County's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Camden Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Looking ahead, Houston County will face off against McKenzie at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Camden Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
