Softball Recap: Langley Comes Up Short

Langley was the 7-4 winner over Paul VI when they last played one another back in March of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The Saxons fell 5-1 to the Panthers on Thursday.

Jaina Fitzpatrick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Langley's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Paul VI, they pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Langley will host Yorktown at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Saxons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Paul VI, they will head out on the road to take on Western Albemarle at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season.
