The Richmond Red Devils will challenge the Mt. Vernon Marauders at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Richmond took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Cambridge City Lincoln get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Aiden McWhinney made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Richmond let Tyrel Brown and Wyatt Kier run wild. Brown went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Kier went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two hits gave Brown a new career-high. Zander Juday was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Mt. Vernon came out on top against Guerin Catholic on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run second inning. The Marauders put the hurt on the Golden Eagles with a sharp 12-2 win.
Mason Meyer and Gavin Joy did most of the damage at the plate: Meyer went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Joy got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Meyer has become a key player for Mt. Vernon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ben Schaeffer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Mt. Vernon now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Richmond, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Richmond came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Vernon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Marauders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
