Basketball Recap: Oakwood Academy Takes a Loss

Oakwood Academy fought the good fight in their overtime match against Lutheran North on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to the Lutheran North Crusaders. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (55), the Mustangs still had to take the loss.

Oakwood Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jourdon Reid, who posted ten points along with five assists and five rebounds. What's more, Reid also racked up two steals, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jadon Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Oakwood Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Oakwood Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 17-8 record this season. As for Lutheran North, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Oakwood Academy will venture away from home to challenge Ider at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lutheran North has already played their next match (against Clayton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
