Baseball Recap: Desert Christian Has No Trouble Against Willcox

Desert Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Willcox on Wednesday. The Eagles blew past the Cowboys 9-1. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Cowboys back in March, they had to take a 7-6 loss.

Caden Esquerra made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Desert Christian is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Esquerra was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Easton Nichols, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Caleb Marquez was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Desert Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Willcox, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-12-1.
