Preview: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Conestoga Cougars
Fort Calhoun is 9-1 against Conestoga since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Fort Calhoun Pioneers will be home for the holidays to greet the Conestoga Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Fort Calhoun strolled past Bancroft-Rosalie with points to spare, taking the game 67-49. Given Fort Calhoun's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Bancroft-Rosalie is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grayson Bouwman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Fort Calhoun's points. Adam Elofson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six assists.
Meanwhile, Conestoga is still undefeated this season after their game against Yutan on Friday, but Yutan came as close as anyone has to beating them. Conestoga narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Yutan 26-23.
The victory makes it two in a row for Fort Calhoun and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for Conestoga, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0.
Fort Calhoun couldn't quite finish off Conestoga when the teams last played back in January and fell 36-34. Can Fort Calhoun avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
