The Fayetteville Lions will face off against the Tomball Kings Homeschool at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Tomball Kings will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Fayetteville extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Lions put the hurt on Moulton with a sharp 16-1 win. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by exactly 15 runs.
Easton Jaeger and Dylan Henneke made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Jaeger pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Henneke pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Jaeger went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Henneke went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Lawson Fritsch was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Schley, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Fayetteville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Tomball Kings made sure to put some runs up on the board against Northland Christian on Monday. The Homeschool blew past the Cougars 10-3. The Homeschool haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Mikey Sharp looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Owen Wilkins, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Taven Oluwa, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Tomball Kings' win bumped their record up to 20-15-1. As for Fayetteville, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fayetteville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Tomball Kings struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
