Softball Game Preview: Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers vs. Shiocton Chiefs

Wittenberg-Birnamwood is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Shiocton a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers will look to defend their home field against the Shiocton Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. Wittenberg-Birnamwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Things were looking good for Wittenberg-Birnamwood after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Tomahawk by a score of 8-6.

Rory Salvesen and Zoey Thorson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Salvesen got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Thorson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Salvesen has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jayda Moenke, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Shiocton hadn't done well against Iola-Scandinavia recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Chiefs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Thunderbirds, sneaking past 2-1.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Shiocton, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Everything went Wittenberg-Birnamwood's way against Shiocton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Wittenberg-Birnamwood made off with a 14-8 victory. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chiefs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
