Softball Recap: Marked Tree Comes Up Short

Marked Tree dropped down to 8-4 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-1 to the East Poinsett County Warriors. Having soared to a lofty 24 runs in the game before, the Indians couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for East Poinsett County, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won 11 matchups by 13 runs or more so far this season.

For East Poinsett County's part, Kylee Henderson was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Henderson has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Barnes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Ashcraft, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marked Tree will square off against Armorel at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.73 runs per game on average), something the Indians will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for East Poinsett County, they will take on Rivercrest at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Colts have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
