Pioneer comes up short despite Makenna Strycker's dominant performance

Recap: Pioneer Panthers vs. Peru Tigers

The Pioneer Panthers were the 57-40 winner over the Peru Tigers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Pioneer took a hard 55-39 fall against Peru on Thursday. Pioneer's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Despite the loss, Pioneer still got an impressive performance from Makenna Strycker, who scored 26 points along with four steals. That was a full 66.7% of Pioneer's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia McKaig, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Peru found their leader in underclassman Addison Robbins, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Jacey Boswell, who scored 11 points.

Pioneer has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Peru, their win bumped their record up to 2-19.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pioneer will square off against Winamac at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Peru, they will head out on the road to take on Eastern at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Eastern is ranked 337th, while Peru is ranked 354th).
