Baseball Recap: Falls Lake Starts Season with Win Against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability

Falls Lake had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans a 24-0 shutout.

Jacob Watson and Nick Denny made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Watson struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Denny tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the first time Watson hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Watson got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI, while Denny scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Watson a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Blake, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kace Obriant, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Falls Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern School of Energy and Sustainability only posted an OBP of .188.

Looking ahead, Falls Lake will challenge Wakefield at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, they will take on Voyager Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
