Baseball Recap: Washburn Comes Up Short

Washburn dropped their record down to 4-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 17-10 to the Madawaska Owls. The Beavers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Owls earlier this season, when they won 10-4.

Grady Churchill made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Isaiah DuMont also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Madawaska, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games.

On Madawaska's side, Isaac Beaulieu made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Beaulieu also tossed no walks, which is notable because Madawaska is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise. Beaulieu was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Matt Ayotte and Alex Querze did most of the damage at the plate: Ayotte got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs, while Querze got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Ayotte has become a key player for Madawaska: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Guerrette, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
