Basketball Game Preview: Freeport Pretzels vs. Pecatonica Indians

The Freeport Pretzels will take on the Pecatonica Indians in a tournament on Thursday. Freeport is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season.

While Freeport didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They enjoyed a cozy 62-45 win over Guilford on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pretzels.

Freeport relied on the efforts of Paityn London, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds, and Aaliyah Martin, who posted 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which London has scored at least a third of Freeport's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keagan Huggins, who put up seven points along with ten rebounds and three steals.

Freeport was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Guilford only posted six assists.

Meanwhile, Pecatonica entered their tilt with Galena on Monday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 47-36. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Pirates are ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pecatonica's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.8 points per game. As for Freeport, their record now sits at 8-2.
