Softball Recap: Point Pleasant Comes Up Short

Point Pleasant extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 11-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lincoln County Panthers. That's two games in a row now that the Big Blacks have lost by exactly two runs.

As for Lincoln County, their win was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.2 runs this season.

For Lincoln County's part, Arien Cooper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Cooper has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Keirstin Ross, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 matches. Another player making a difference was Laney Nelson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Point Pleasant does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lincoln County, they will challenge Hoover at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 3.8, the Huskies 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
