Basketball Recap: Maize Finds Playoff Glory Versus Heights

It's playoff time, and Maize had no trouble coming through when it counted. They managed a 57-52 victory over the Heights Falcons on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Falcons back in January, they had to take a 66-49 loss.

Alan Hanna continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 59% from the field to rack up 24 points and five blocks. Those five blocks gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Myovela, who posted nine points in addition to seven assists and seven rebounds.

Maize was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heights only seven assists.

Heights' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amalachi Wilkins, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 11 boards. Wilkins is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Chase Robinson was another key player, going 6-for-7 en route to 12 points.

Maize is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Heights and nudges their season record down to 21-4.

As of now, neither Maize nor Heights have any future games scheduled.
