Baseball Game Preview: Loyola Academy Ramblers vs. St. Laurence Vikings

Loyola Academy hasn't had much luck against St. Laurence recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Ramblers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 4:45 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Loyola Academy will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Chicago Mt. Carmel, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Ramblers had just enough and edged out the Caravan 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Ramblers have posted since April 10th.

Meanwhile, St. Laurence had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it 14 on Tuesday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Mustangs.

St. Laurence pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Loyola Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

Loyola Academy suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to St. Laurence in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Ramblers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
