Old Bridge and Monroe Township are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Knights will face off against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Old Bridge will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Old Bridge will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Seton Hall Prep, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. The Knights were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Pirates on Saturday. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Brody Nugent was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Nugent was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted over his last nine games.
In other pitching news, Brady Meyer tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
Back at the plate, John Smith was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justin Hascup, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Monroe Township fell victim to Old Bridge and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 6-0 to the Knights. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Old Bridge pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe Township, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Everything went Old Bridge's way against Monroe Township in their previous matchup on Friday, as Old Bridge made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
