Softball Recap: Fort Payne Wins Going Away Against Gadsden City

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Fort Payne walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Gadsden City Titans on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Baylee Green was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Fort Payne's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-15. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Gadsden City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 15 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-25 record this season.

Fort Payne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gadsden City, they will be playing at home against Southside at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Titans surely won't give up without a fight.
