The KIPP King Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Mt. Diablo Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. KIPP King is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.2 runs per game this season.
On Friday, KIPP King made easy work of Leadership Public Schools Richmond and carried off a 15-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.
Gabriel Acevedo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Acevedo was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while going 3-for-4. He has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Parada, who scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. KIPP King is 4-1 when Parada posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Richard Huerta, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
KIPP King always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, the third road match was the charm for Mt. Diablo, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They came out on top against Tennyson by a score of 9-5 last Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Red Devils as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Johnny Vazquez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Vazquez was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Christopher Yanez Ledezma and Gianni Basler did most of the damage at the plate: Yanez Ledezma scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Basler scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That run marked the first that Yanez Ledezma scored this season.
Mt. Diablo picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-7. As for KIPP King, their record is now 5-3.
Mt. Diablo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: KIPP King hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. It's a different story for Mt.
